Reflective Practice for Counsellors and Psychotherapists
As You Are, Corner House, 45 Southwick Street, BN42 4TH
Sunday 20th October 10am-3pm
This one-day experiential workshop will introduce participants to different reflective and creative practices that can be used by counsellors and psychotherapists as part of their personal and professional development.
Reflective and creative practices can help counsellors and psychotherapists reflect on how our experiences, values and backgrounds come to play a part in our ability to create and maintain therapeutic relationships (Wright and Bolton, 2012). By trying out methods of creativity and reflection it is hoped that we can nurture greater reflexivity – awareness of self-in-action – and use our imaginations, creativity and embodied modes of thinking and acting. Through doing this, we will have our assumptions challenged and, hopefully, identify some of our own limitations and blind spots. It can be an opportunity to reflect in greater depth on therapeutic relationships that we have perhaps found challenging or wish to learn from. It is an excellent compliment to supervision.
We will try out different reflective and creative practices: written, visual and embodied, as we each reflect in different ways and we need to find a practice that works for us.
